One surefire antidote to the gray days of winter is a taste of summer—a hamburger with all the fixings. Mix that with a dash of Island community spirit, and you have a winning formula.
As the winds whipped snow across the Island Monday night and Tuesday, most people hunkered down and stayed inside, off the slippery roads and out of the chill. But some hardy Samaritans braved the weather and the roads to make the storm a little bit easier for their neighbors.
A small framed list on the wall of the West Tisbury post office lists the names of each of the town’s postmasters. Soon a new name will be added to the lineup — postmaster Paula Sullivan has retired, capping a postal service career of nearly 30 years.
The all-Island school committee voted to name assistant superintendent Matthew D’Andrea as the next superintendent after a discussion that saw support for both Mr. D’Andrea and Oak Bluffs principal Richard Smith.
Shelagh Hackett, Paul Munafo, Kenny Romero and Molly Conole are working on a 24-song cabaret at the Vineyard Playhouse, a reunion for the four singers. Wicked Good Cabaret takes place Saturday, Jan. 24.
