Enrollment in Island public schools has remained relatively steady this year, the recent annual school census shows, with Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury showing slight growth and the high schooling showing a slight drop. The school census is conducted every year on Oct. 1.

Tisbury selectmen appointed a department of public works advisory board Monday evening in the wake of new legislation placing the DPW under their control. Ian A. Aitchison, George J. Balco, Thomas W. Pachico, Tomar Waldman and David Willoughby will serve through June 2016.

Mornings at Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School begin just as they did 19 years ago when the doors first opened. The whole school, including teachers, administrators and students from high school to kindergarten, sits together on the floor of the hallway, a stretch everyone calls Main street.
