Martha’s Vineyard has one of the highest rates of home insurance policies not being renewed across the United States, leading to higher premiums, according to a newly released federal report.

The MV SSA Citizens’ Action Group, a loose coalition of Vineyarders and mainland residents, had its first meeting last week to talk about their frustrations with the ferry system.

The Vineyard Conservation Society is leading the way to get regulations that would initially limit the time frames that landscapers could use gas-powered leaf blowers, before instituting a ban on the gas-powered machines by 2028. 

Vineyard towns have started to wrap their arms around regulating the thousands of short-term rentals on the Island, tackling an issue that housing advocates have long said exacerbates the ongoing housing crisis.

A long-running dispute between a pair of prominent business owners and an Island fuel supplier made its way back into court last month with a new wrinkle.

The Island Plan, the Martha's Vineyard Commission's 50-year plan to steer the Island, remains valid but several people involved in the process said implementation has been spotty.
