Dr. David S. Martin, deaf education specialist and Professor and Dean Emeritus at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, will speak at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha’s Vineyard in Vineyard Haven. His talk, titled One World: Unity Among Differences, will focus on his research and teaching of problem-solving strategies. Dr.

A trio of ten-year-olds crowded the ticket booth of the Vineyard Playhouse last week, earnestly peddling imaginary tickets to playhouse employee Geneva Monks. This was their dress rehearsal, preparation for last Saturday’s production of Cave Critters Unite, the play created by Bridget Mello’s class at the Edgartown School for their part in the playhouse’s Fourth Grade Theatre Project.

Give Different

Holiday gifts don’t always come wrapped in paper and tied with a bow. On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Federated Church is introducing an alternative way to give at a Mission Fair scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Parish House, 45 South Summer street, Edgartown. In addition to a presentation of the church’s various projects and missions, the fair will provide an opportunity to donate to a number of different charities, a more meaningful gift than yet another snowflake sweater.

Through the effort of the Tisbury School librarian, Patricia Ryan, and a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Tisbury School is showcasing an exhibition, Pictures of America, which documents the history of America through major American artists and their work.

The posters not only feature famous paintings, but sculptures, photography and craft works. The exhibition will be on display for the month of November in the passageway between the school and the library.

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library will present the first of their Sunday afternoon programs for the season on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Author Nora Nevin and photographer Harvey Beth will be speaking about the Haiti PeaceQuilts Project. Refreshments will be served following the talk.
