It started as a sort of experiment, an off-season diversion for theatre enthusiasts interested in staging Shakespeare’s more serious works, the ones that are often skipped over in favor of his lighter comedy fare during the carefree summer months. In the fall of 2007, Nicole Galland teamed up with Chelsea McCarthy to tackle some of the great Shakespearean tragedies and spin their stories into something accessible for all.

Stewards of Our Island: Local Concerns. Local Solutions. That is the theme of this year’s Wampanoag Environmental Health Consumer Expo 2010, slated for Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The Expo is open to the entire Island community, free of charge. There’s an exhibitor hall going up in the cafeteria, with representatives from public health, healthy housing, local non-profit environmental organizations, green businesses and others, covering a range of environmental health issues.

Sinfonietta Concert

The Vineyard Sinfonietta presents a free spring concert on piano and is at 3 p.m. on April 11 at the West Tisbury Congregational Church. The hour-long concert features pianist John Gorman, mezzo soprano Martha Hudson, and the Sinfonietta’s string players, performing music by Bizet, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and others. All ages are welcome; donations will be accepted
