Island taxicab operators who say they were told in recent years that Tisbury has no cab licenses available are now crying foul over an application to start a new taxi company in the town.

Two experienced Island bus and van drivers seeking to form their own taxi business in Tisbury ran into an unexpected obstacle at their license hearing this week.

A special winter town meeting to consider using modular buildings for Tisbury town offices has been called off as town officials weigh plans for a new, $15 million town hall building. 

A town policy calls for a 10 per cent increase in the mooring permit fees every other year and the harbor master is asking for higher docking and dinghy fees.

The town’s police and fire departments have completed safety plans for the festival, an expert has been called in to evaluate the conditions of the park fields and a protocol to deal with the festival’s sound is being put into place.

The board voted unanimously at its June 28 meeting to reject Island Adventure Rentals’ application to resume moped rentals on Beach Road. The business had long been one of the few remaining moped rental operations on the Island but closed during the pandemic.
