Mink Meadows is hosting a charity golf tournament on Oct. 25 to benefit the Tisbury School’s eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C.

The Vineyard boys varsity soccer team held their own against a large home crowd Saturday against rival Nantucket with a game that resulted in a 1-1 tie. The Vineyarders are now 6-3-1 on the season; they take on Barnstable Saturday at home.

Last year’s graduating class scored fourth highest on the SATs in school history, director of guidance Michael McCarthy said this week. The class of 2015 outperformed their peers on a state and national level.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School varsity football team lost 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to Bishop Feehan. The game was rescheduled from Friday night and came at the tail end of a stormy weekend with rain and wind.

Results from the MCAS test administered last spring show a steep drop in performance in science in most Vineyard elementary schools. But test scores tell only part of the story, especially as Island schools had a foot in two testing worlds last year.

A renovation project at the Chilmark School went slightly over budget this summer, leaving not enough cash on hand to address a faulty boiler in the school heating system. Members of the up-Island district committee discussed the problem.
