Selectmen in both towns said this week they would call special town meetings to address school spending questions.

Repeated requests from the regional high school to spend unbudgeted funds have begun to raise eyebrows among some Island selectmen.

As the fiscal year nears an end, the high school is anticipating some $230,000 in budget overruns, school accountant Mark Friedman said this week.

It’s been a busy spring for superintendent Dr. Matthew D’Andrea, who has been stumping at town meetings from Edgartown to Aquinnah seeking support for two major capital projects.

Aquinnah became the fifth and final town to approve the use of surplus funds for design work on the high school athletic fields overhaul.
