Islanders Rally To Put Food on Holiday Tables

As the Thanksgiving holiday arrives, Island organizations and individuals are making sure everyone has the opportunity to give thanks this season through donations of free food and a free holiday dinner. 

According to Island Grown Initiative food equity director Merrick Carreiro, ensuring that everyone has food on the table is essential at this time of year.

 

 

 

It was another busy year at the Island Food Pantry, a community-wide organization that feeds those in need.

The year proved similar to last year; there were 2,405 visits, which fed 505 family units, including at least 250 children.

Last November, a temporary stimulus to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) expired, leaving 480,000 Massachusetts residents with fewer funds to stretch throughout the month.
