The Holmes Hole Sailing Association commenced its Thursday Evening series of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven Harbor on June 21 with a 6:00 p.m.

With a moderate west southwest wind of 8-10 knots, 13 boats posted for the start at red nun 6 outside of the Vineyard Haven breakwater. The fleet sailed a broad reach on the port tack to west chop, jibed onto starboard for a reach to East Chop, and sailed close hauled with one or two tacks to the finish line.

The Vineyard offers ample opportunity to run, jump, hit, swing or swim. This summer, frisbee fans need not look glum, either.

The league-leading Cubs picked up their second title in a row with a 2-1 win over the second-place Pirates in the Majors game, while the Marlins won 3-1 over the Reds in the Minor League contest.

Early threats of thunderstorms faded into cloudless blue skies as Cubs ace Aidan Aliberti took the mound for his first of four 1-2-3 innings to start things off.
