MVC to Open New Hearing on Katama Meadows Subdivision

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission will open a new public hearing next week on revised plans for the Katama Meadows subdivision, after commissioners voted Thursday to accept the withdrawal of a previous application.

Friends are welcome to gather for an appreciation party for Penny Townes and Darlene Kelly, to honor them for their work at the Second Hand Store in Edgartown, on Tuesday, July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Midnight Mermaid Gallery at 117 Main street in Edgartown. Flea Pauses for Book Sale

There will be no Chilmark Flea market on Saturday, July 26, at the West Tisbury School due to the annual West Tisbury Library Book Sale which is held at the West Tisbury School. Parking space will not permit both events. The Chilmark Flea will resume on Wednesday, July 30, and on all subsequent Wednesdays and Saturdays through August 30.

Sheriff’s Meadow Files Plan to Restore Preserves Mined for Native Plants

A detailed five-point plan to rehabilitate two Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation properties that were mined for trees and plants early this summer to landscape a private North Shore property — in breach of the Endangered Species Act — has been submitted to state environmental authorities by the conservation organization.

Hillary Noyes and John Keene of Chilmark announce the birth of a son, Lathrop John Backus Keene on July 7 at the Martha’s Vineyard Community Hospital. Lathrop weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces at birth. He is also welcomed by big sisters Adelaine, Thea and Ella.
