For the second time this month, Sengekontacket Pond has been closed to shellfishing because of rainfall. The town of Oak Bluffs said the pond was closed Wednesday and would reopen on Monday, July 20 at the earliest. If there is more rainfall, the closure could be extended.

Naturalist Gus Ben David has handled everything from gigantic snakes to enormous birds of prey, but the latest creature under his care is less intimidating and quite a bit more endearing: a baby osprey recently rescued on Chappaquiddick. Mr. Ben David has been feeding and housing the small raptor.

On Tuesday morning the new cafe and marketplace Rosewater opened at 20 South Summer street in Edgartown after five months of development. The store includes several areas for eating, both inside and outside, as well as grocery items. There are also plans for a catering business.

Samantha White Billings of Oak Bluffs, Erin Marie Gosson of Edgartown, and Michael Frederick Hill of Oak Bluffs, were named to the spring 2015 dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island.
