The Arts at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center will present the San Francisco-based early music ensemble Passamezzo Moderno in a concert of 17th Century instrumental music from Rome using original instruments. The concert will be held in the Harriet B. Freedberg Learning Center at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, 130 Center street in Vineyard Haven, on Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society.
In honor of Memorial Day, Jonathan Auerbach will bring his second annual Brave Women, Brave Men benefit concert to the Vineyard beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in the Tisbury Market Place, 79 Beach Road in Vineyard Haven. Mr. Auerbach will peform original music along with vocalist Carole Charlin and percussionist Alejandro Carreno. Local veterans will also attend the concert.
The all-Island Instrumental Band Spring Concert begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the Performing Arts Center at the regional high school, 100 Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Oak Bluffs.
The concert begins with the jazz band and also features a showcase of fourth-graders, as well as the more seasoned middle school performers. The band is comprised of more than 200 students. The concert is free.
The Minnesingers have returned from their 10-day trip to Croatia with a new show for Vineyard audiences. On Saturday, May 4, at 7 p.m.
The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society joins thousands of musicians and hundreds of concert presenters across the country for National Chamber Music Month. For information on chamber music performances taking place across the country during the month, visit chamber-music.org.
Closer to home, the MVCMS will perform their annual spring concert on Sunday, May 26 at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown beginning at 4 p.m. and will feature musicians from the Boston Symphony Orchestra performing the music of Beethoven, Franck and Piazzolla.
Support for community members in need and a tribute to an Island visitor will come together this weekend in a celebration of all things Led Zeppelin.
Dazed, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, will perform Saturday at 9 p.m. at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs. The show is in honor of Mark Wojnilo, who visited his sister Margie on the Island regularly before he died unexpectedly five years ago. Mr. Wojnilo loved Led Zeppelin, his sister said. Friends from across the country are expected to turn out to celebrate.
