Dredging in Vineyard Haven harbor will be postponed until after Labor Day due to broken equipment. The project was scheduled to begin last week and be completed before July. Tisbury town administrator John (Jay) Grande reported at Tuesday’s selectmen’s meeting that the contractor, Barnstable County, had to repair their dredge, causing work to be pushed back.
“It certainly comes as a big bombshell to everyone to learn five days before they were supposed to start that the dredge won’t be operating,” dredge committee member Nevin Sayre said.
A wedding rehearsal fireworks display will be on full view next week in Edgartown.
The town selectmen this week approved an application for fireworks on June 14 at 9 p.m. from a barge off Fuller street beach.
The application was submitted by the Lobianco family, and the fireworks will be for a wedding rehearsal dinner with 190 people.
A 105-acre greenbelt area around the town of Tisbury will see a small expansion thanks to a purchase by the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank. The land bank announced this week that it has bought a three-acre lot in Tisbury abutting its Wapatequa Woods Reservation.
The Warren House, the rundown North Water street house owned by the town of Edgartown, finally has a bidder.
A group including Maggie White, the owner of Hob Knob Inn as well as construction and realty companies, submitted a two-option bid to restore the home into a single family residence early this week.
One bid would pay the town $1 million plus 40 per cent of the profits made from selling the house. A second offer would pay the town $1.25 million in cash.
The selectmen opted to take the bid under advisement and discuss it further at their June 17 meeting.
In light of several renovation projects around the downtown area, the Oak Bluffs selectmen Monday reconsidered a longstanding town policy to prohibit downtown construction work from June 1 to Sept. 15.
At a special meeting, the selectmen adopted clarifying regulations to allow construction work inside buildings during the summer with several conditions, including no work on weekends and nights.
