With concerns ranging from storm water management to the fate of town-owned bathrooms, public review of a proposal for a major renovation and expansion of the Tisbury Stop & Shop store continued Thursday before the Martha’s Vineyard Commission.

A second public hearing was set for Thursday night before the Martha’s Vineyard Commission on expansion plans for the Stop & Shop grocery store in Vineyard Haven. As the commission begins an exhaustive review of one of the largest and most complicated commercial development projects in recent memory on the Island, public opinion and institutional knowledge about the commission is mixed.

The federal government formally declared the Gay Head Light surplus property Thursday, clearing the way for the town of Aquinnah to take ownership of the lighthouse which is now critically endangered due to erosion.

The General Services Administration posted the notice Thursday, making the lighthouse surplus property. Aquinnah voters have already agreed that the town will apply to take ownership.

The Edgartown selectmen are revisiting plans to have a tent in the parking lot off Kelley street for the Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine festival after abutters expressed concerns. In March, the selectmen approved a proposal for the annual festival to move from the Field Club into downtown. But some business owners said they were not notified about the plans, which include tents on Mayhew Lane and closing Kelly street to traffic for three days, from roughly Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.

The Oak Bluffs Association has taken a position against food trucks in downtown Oak Bluffs, executive director Christine Todd told the town selectmen Tuesday at what would likely be the last public hearing on the subject.

Edgartown selectmen said this week that an American Staffordshire terrier involved in a dog fight should be considered dangerous, and they ordered that the dog be bonded and must be muzzled when off its owner’s property.

Ramune, a rescue dog belonging to Damon Burke, was involved in a July 6 fight with another dog who lived in the house. That dog, a pit bull/hound mix named Tommy, was euthanized by his owner last week.
