At their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, the planning board reviewed a draft bylaw from the short-term rental committee which would limit residents to one short term rental property per person, with 12 weeks total allowed to be rented on a short-term basis.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission this week agreed to allow three previously-denied fireplaces at a mixed-use condominium complex in downtown Vineyard Haven, in exchange for the developer’s pledge to allow no further propane appliances anywhere on the property.
The Oak Bluffs project is meant to upgrade the regularly-congested area near where the Patriot and Island Queen ferries dock by building a roundabout, reconfiguring parking spots and establishing larger pedestrian walkways.
The bill would close what the lawmakers called a loophole in the state’s campaign finance law. The state currently requires the disclosure of funds that people use to support or oppose ballot questions and sets spending caps for all state elections except town meetings.
The special town meeting is scheduled to take place Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at the West Tisbury school.
The land nonprofit has been the subject of considerable controversy recently as abutters, recreational beachgoers, and conservation officials dispute the Trustees’ management approach.
