The Oyster Bar Grill is hosting a Wine and Champagne fundraiser on August 29, from 1 to 3 p.m., to benefit the growth of Pathway to Your Success, a weekly program broadcast on MVTV and the web. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted on behalf of the organization.
The television show is the five-month-old project hosted by Islander Natalie Dickerson, featuring local business heroes. The goal is for the television show also to become a reference tool for local entrepreneurs.
The fourth annual Taste of Tashmoo fundraiser will be held at the waterfront home of Denys and Marilyn Wortman at Hines Point in Vineyard Haven, on Friday, Sept. 3. The event is to benefit the Tashmoo Spring Building Preservation Fund, aimed at restoring the historic 1887 pumping station for community use
The menu will include a raw bar with clams freshly dug from Island waters as well as tastings from Island farms, caterers, restaurants, brew pubs and wine shops. There also will be a silent auction and live music. It will be rain or shine.
Dr. Charles Adams Visits
Union Chapel Third Time
Union Chapel is pleased to welcome the popular preacher Dr. Charles G. Adams Sr. this Sunday. He is pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich. He brings with him the Hartford Male Chorus as a guest choir.
The thing Martha’s Vineyard NAACP branch president Laurie Perry-Henry likes best about the jazz band Pieces of a Dream was their sense of togetherness and common purpose.
“That’s our theme for the NAACP, is One Nation, One Dream,” said Ms. Perry-Henry in an interview this week. “It’s almost prophetic in nature,” she said of the common values shared by the national civil rights group, and the smaller, musical one.
The Surgeon General of the United States will be on hand in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, August 28, for the 22nd annual Sullivan 5K Run/Walk Road Race for Health and Fitness. Regina M. Benjamin, M.D., will join former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., and E. Ginger Sullivan at the U.S. Track and Field Association certified 5K course.
Benefit for Seniors
Flatbread Pizza will donate part of their sales tonight to the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living. Each Flatbread pizza sold on Tuesday, August 24 between 5 to 9:30 p.m. will benefit this association helping Island seniors. There will also be a silent auction table at the restaurant at Nectar’s at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport.
