Those Who Serve Speak

As part of their new publication, Those Who Serve: Martha’s Vineyard and World War II, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum is hosting a book signing and reading on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. Readers will include veterans Hector Asselin, Mev Good, Ted Morgan, Tom Hale and Nelson Smith whose oral histories appear in the book recorded by the museum’s oral history curator, Linsey Lee.

Fundraiser to Fight Cancer

Each year for the past 25 years the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group has hosted a benefit party. This year’s event is called An Evening under the Stars and takes place on Thursday, May 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The fundraiser takes place at the Granary Gallery, 636 Old County Road in West Tisbury. As this is the 25th anniversary celebration expect an extra special evening dedicated to those fighting cancer.

Miles of Memories

The Martha’s Vineyard Miles of Memories Walk for Alzheimer’s will be on Sunday, May 15, rain or shine. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs. The two-and-a-half-mile walk begins at noon.

Remembrance Luncheon

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard is holding a remembrance luncheon at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown on Sunday, May 22. All attendees are invited to bring a picture of a loved one to be displayed during the meal.

Walk to Cure Cancer

This Saturday, May 7, everyone can pitch in to help cure cancer simply by putting one foot in front of the other in the annual MV goes Pink walk.

Beginning at Lola’s on Beach Road and looping around to the Edgartown Lighthouse and back, the walk is a chance to help raise money for the Island’s Cancer Support Group as well as show support for Islanders living with cancer.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., walk at 10 a.m. For details, call 508-560-0484.
