My New Year’s resolutions/Are soon forgotten delusions/About who I could be.
My New Year’s resolutions
Are soon forgotten delusions
About who I could be
Indeed, at times
I might like to be a tree
Within a chorus
Of dropping leaves
In unison and harmony
To a forest’s drumbeat
And season’s cadence
Of songs never complete
Simply rhythms to repeat
As leaves restore each spring
A form of rehearsal
Year after year
Not unlike resolutions
In search
Of the illusive tree of life
Not found in any tree
But in the forest’s melody
In me.
