Edgartown School principal John Stevens has announced the honor roll for the third quarter of the 2011-2012 academic year.
Eighth grade high honors go to Renato Gomes, Samantha Hargy, Jared Livingston and Sara Poggi.
Eighth grade honors go to James DiMattia, Alexandra Ellis, Elliot Ferland, Olivia Green-Lingren, Elizabeth Hayman, Jacquelyn Hegarty, Marlla Lemos, Amadine Muniz and Ian Shea.
Seventh grade high honors go to Kylie Hatt, Erin Hill, Abigail Lively, Paulo Pereira, Sarah Pertile, Joshua Tate- Da Silva and Lucy Ulyatt.
Today is the deadline for Island students, grades one through eight, to enter the Mom of the Year essay writing contest. The contest, in conjunction with the Edgartown Board of Trade and Pink and Green Weekend, will award three winning prizes—one each in grades one to three, four to six and seven to eight. The winning essays will be recognized and read at the Harbor View Hotel’s Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, May 13, at 11 a.m.
Sarah and Oberon York of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a son, Silas Kano York, born on March 26 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Silas weighed 7 pounds, 8.5 ounces at birth and joins big sister Lilah.
Announcing Suzanne
Isabella and Shawn Reed of West Tisbury announce the birth of a daughter, Suzanne Cabral Reed, born on April 12 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Suzanne weighed 6 pounds, 11.8 ounces at birth.
Brian Devaney of New Bedford and Paula Devaney of Edgartown are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittany Devaney, to Matthew Lawson. Mr. Lawson is the son of Matt and Michelle Hylton, both of Richmond, Va. A Vineyard wedding is planned for Sept. 21, 2013.
Navy Graduate
Kayla Whalen, a graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School class of 2004, graduated from the United States Navy basic training program and became a US Sailor on March 16. During basic training Ms. Whalen was twice promoted and earned an E-3 rating, the highest rating one can receive during the eight vigorous weeks. She also worked as the Master at Arms and earned a Sharpshooter in the 9mm and shotgun.
