Library Book Drive

Thanks to a wildly successful book drive, the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs will offer a wide variety of quality used books in all categories, for all ages, at bargain prices all weekend. Hours begins today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continue Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday noon to 2 p.m. at the library.

Let Loose the Imagination

Want to take a right turn in this left brain world? How about dipping a toe in the creative waters by attending a faculty reading and reception that opens up the inaugeral year of the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. But this isn’t just about sitting back and enjoying the ride. It’s an invitation to join the circus. The institute still has a few spots left in its weeklong seminar running from July 26 to July 30.

Ever wonder what to do with the riches earned at the summer lemonade stand? S.L. Hudson has the answer in her new young adult novel, Strike Zone, the Games of Baseball and Money. The book is both a coming of age story and a financial seminar for young earners. Hudson will be reading from her book and leading a discussion at Edgartown Books on 44 Main street in Edgartown, this Friday, July 23 at 4 p.m.

Kids’ Drama Workshop

Phyllis Vecchia Creative Drama will be holding a summer workshop for children four-and-a-half to nine years old at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School summer camp program. It will begin Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, daily from 9 to 11 a.m.

Each class will consist of theatre warmups, acting out a folktale or story tale, reading of the story, dressing up in costumes, putting on a performance, puppet play and theatre games. In the last class there will be a short performance for the parents.

Bodhi Path Buddhist Center founder Shamar Rinpoche, the 14th Sharmapa, will be on Martha’s Vineyard for a weekend teaching series July 24 and 25, teaching from his latest book, The Path To Awakening. Teachings will be 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m. both days. There will be a welcoming reception and book signing on Friday, July 23, from 5 to 8 p.m.
