Land Bank Walk

On Sunday, May 6, at 1 p.m. the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank staff lead a guided walk of Poucha Pond Reservation in Edgartown. Anyone interested should meet at the trailhead for Poucha Pond Reservation located off Wasque Road.

Did you know it is the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812? Simple addition leads to a big Duh, but then again it’s not just about math. The War of 1812 sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of bloodier battles.

Sharky’s Dine to Donate All Day on May 8 is dedicated to Daybreak Clubhouse. This program is part of Community Services and provides a safe and supportive environment for members working toward optimal mental health and independence.

All day long, either dine in or take-out, Sharky’s donotes 15 per cent of all food sales to Daybreak.This includes the Chowder Company too, (part of the Sharky’s empire).

There will also be a benefit raffle at the Edgartown Sharky’s beginning at 5 p.m.

Actors Wanted

The Vineyard Playhouse is holding professional auditions by appointment only for Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) actors on Monday, May 7, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Roles are available in two shows, The Screenwriter’s Daughter by Larry Mollin, and Fenway: A Vineyard Love Letter by Randal Myler. These shows will be performed this summer but not at the Playhouse as renovations are not expected to be complete until late fall.

Film Society Screens Pina

Tonight, May 4, at 7:30 p.m., the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is showing a documentary by Wim Wenders called Pina. The film chronicles the career of choreographer Pina Bausch. During the filming, Ms. Bausch died and Mr. Wenders nearly decided to discontinue the project. Thankfully, he persevered.

The art of Lyn Hinds is on display at the West Tisbury Library for the month of May and an opening reception will be held on Friday, May 11, at 4 p.m. at the library.

Ms. Hinds studied at the University of Connecticut and the University of Hartford Art School. Her work has been exhibited at the New Haven Paint and Clay Club Show, Works by Artists of New England and New York, the Connecticut Woman Artists, Inc.Show (Best In show Award), Dragonfly Gallery and the Hermine Merel Smith Fine Art Gallery.
