Hooked Restaurant, located on the site of the beloved Lola’s, 15 Island Inn Road in Oak Bluffs, is having its grand opening tonight, May 25. To celebrate they are going creole with a New Orleans-inspired music scene.

In an afterward to Steven Raichlen’s love story that takes place on our own beloved little island off the big Island, locally known as Chappy, the author frets, in a witty way, that he might have presented the small, water-enveloped moraine as too much of a Shangri-la: What if too many readers are persuaded to move there, and Chappaquiddickers suddenly lose their much-cherished peace and quiet?

On Sunday, May 27, Pulitzer Prize winning author Richard Russo and his daughter, Kate, will give a reading at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven. This will be the first event to take place in the bookstore’s new space, across Main street in the old Bowl and Board building.

What a way to start a new era.

Museum Opens Theatre Exhibit

Martha’s Vineyard is, of course, known for its beaches and endless summer breezes. But it is also known for its theatre; after all, the Island has been a haven for artists for, well, what do you think those whalers did for fun?

Next weekend Tim Conway returns to the Vineyard to host an evening of comedy to benefit the Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard.

For those not familiar with the comic stylings of Mr. Conway, get thee to a YouTube video now. He was part of the original Gang of Four, if you will, on the Carol Burnett Show, which aired from 1967 to 1978. Harvey Korman and Vicky Lawrence rounded out the cast. Mr. Conway won five Emmy awards for his work on the show.
