Children’s etiquette classes will be held at the Farm Neck Golf Club beginning in July. The classes will be taught by Elaine Carroll, founder of the East Coast School of Etiquette. She teaches classes on the Vineyard and in West Palm Beach, Fla. “Manners learned as a child last a lifetime,” Ms. Carroll said. For information, call 508-682-9572, or go to [email protected].

A mysterious stranger became the highlight of the poetry night at Che’s Lounge two weeks ago. Here’s how former West Tisbury poet laureate Dan Waters, one of the 70 or so people who crowded the Vineyard Haven cafe that evening, describes it:

“A tall, 90-year-old man walked in with a sheaf of poems — which happens all the time — and started reading. Every poem was preceded by an anecdote. They were humorous, and it was amazing.”

There’s lots of wonderful things to eat, And wonderful games to play ... Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

And for us humans? When the gods provide the weather — and they’ve been holding back so far this summer, so let’s hope they’ll be generous from here on — the Vineyard provides many an idyllic spot for a picnic and no shortage of sources to fill the basket with delectables. Pretty much any taste and budget can be satisfied. Seriously, where to begin?

Who is Mr. G?

His name is Greg Wilson and apart from widespread recognition for his locally crafted Mr. G’s Hot Sauce, he can be easily identified by his charismatic nature, sincere smile and animated personality, which coincide with unwavering passion and a determination to produce and brand the best hot sauce available on the market — locally, and worldwide.

That’s pretty spicy stuff.

The Edgartown Federated Church will continue hosting its annual chowder suppers on July 9, 16, 23 and 30; and August 6 and 13, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the Federated Church Parish House on South Summer street in Edgartown. The profits from the past two years each exceeded $1,000, which is given to the Island Food Pantry to help purchase goods not donated, sorely needed to help families on the Island during the winter months.
