Children’s Theatre

Island Theatre Workshop’s Children’s Theatre summer program opens for the season on Monday, June 28, at the Sailing Camp Park on the Lagoon in Oak Bluffs. There will be four two-week sessions for ages 6 to 18 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Nurturing self-expression with immersion in voice, movement and acting training in a unique and supportive environment, students rehearse and perform an original play at the end of each session, with the support and guidance of experienced staff.

Practicing Arts Alchemy at the Yard

What do you get when you cross the bad boy of downtown dance with Carmen Miranda, Lenny Bruce, and a whole bunch of hard working bodies? Another tour de force show from the Yard, of course. This weekend the artistic love child of Patricia Hoffbauer and Mark Dendy, entitled Para-dice, pushes the boundaries of dance, theatre and performance.

Twelve Hundred dollars and a week of professional wall time was the award for three Island high school seniors who won the Martha’s Vineyard Arts Association scholarship given by the Old Sculpin Gallery. It is hard to know which is better: invaluable experience, or valuable resources.

This year the winners of the scholarship were Lonni Phillips, Naomi Scott and Maggie Howard.

On Sunday, there was an opening reception for this annual showing of the recipients of the scholarship; their exhibit runs until June 26.
