Roberts Way in Edgartown will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 and Tuesday, Sept. 15, to accommodate construction crews working on the new library.

The closure will allow work crews to replace some concrete on the site. The sidewalk along Roberts Way will be closed around the clock from Monday, Sept. 14 to Friday, Sept. 18. Selectmen approved the temporary changes at their meeting Tuesday.

Adam M. Smith, a 27-year-old Berkeley, Calif. man visiting Martha’s Vineyard as part of a bachelor party weekend, was arraigned Tuesday in Edgartown district court on three counts of rape, threatening to commit a crime, and intimidating a victim.

A mandate from the federal government to reduce bandwidth on police, fire and other communication devices has left Island emergency responders struggling with spotty coverage at times this summer.

As the years-long, hugely expensive Lagoon Pond drawbridge project enters its final phase, state contractors confirmed this week that the bridge must stay in the down position from Oct. 1 to Jan. 31.

Traffic on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs came to a halt Tuesday evening when a large tree limb fell across the busy street. There appeared to be little damage to vehicles, and no power outages were reported.
