The play Spring Awakening follows teenagers in late 19th-century Germany struggling with their own curiosity, sexuality and culture. Although the play is set over 100 years ago, people of all ages empathize with the feelings and experiences of the characters.

Graduates, take this moment to think about the extraordinary people who have helped you along your personal journey. And if you haven’t already, sometime today tell those people how much you appreciate their love and support.

In two talks last week, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche outlined the steps he teaches toward achieving happiness. He said that the basis for happiness includes a calm and kind mind, and a life with less judgment.

“You should always strive to have a kind mind,” he said.

Martha’s Vineyard is practically overflowing with wildlife and vegetation. To highlight this, a group of local farmers, fishermen and food-lovers have created an experience that doesn’t just talk about the wonders of local food, it showcases how it is produced, cooked and eaten.

On Saturday, in honor of Earth Day, perhaps the best thing to do is become a plant or an animal. Or at least look at the world from the perspective of one.

Sandy Broyard and Sally Cohn will direct What’s Written Within on Sunday, March 23 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center. This will be the dance group's third annual performance at the Hebrew Center’s arts program.
