A plan for a large oyster farm in Lagoon Pond spurred debate in Oak Bluffs this week, with town officials weighing concerns about the location and effects of the proposed farm with the potential benefits of aquaculture. Brothers Dan and Greg Martino applied for an aquaculture license to start a four-acre oyster farm at the southern end of Lagoon Pond.

A state primary Tuesday will coincide with two annual town elections on the Vineyard.

Chilmark and Tisbury will hold their town elections on the same day as the primary in a special election to fill the seat formerly held by Sen. John Kerry.

Despite the change in dates to coincide with the senate election primary, town clerks in Chilmark and Tisbury are expecting low voter turnout.

Mr. Kerry stepped down in January to become secretary of state after serving as senator for 28 years.

Construction is scheduled to begin this week on a new liquor store near the airport.

Brion McGroarty, who has operated Town Provisions in downtown Edgartown for 23 years, plans to move the store to a new 2,700 square foot building that will be an addition to the Flatbread Company, a family pizza restaurant on Airport Road.

Edgartown selectmen Monday renewed Flatbread Company’s alcohol license after voicing concerns about the restaurant’s hours.

Town administrator Pamela Dolby said that last summer the pizza restaurant by the airport kept “sporadic hours” and closed for the season before its announced Sept. 30 closing date.

Edgartown police chief Antone Bettencourt said Monday that the Island team, a highly-skilled group of officers from most Island police departments, was called to Boston last Friday to assist with a search for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

In early April, without any fanfare, the Vineyard lost its only traffic signal.

With the installation of a roundabout now about two weeks away, the two blinking lights at the intersection of Barnes Road and Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road were taken away to the Oak Bluffs highway department, their lights dimmed for the foreseeable future.
