Now that it is April, we may have seen the last of winter weather (let’s hope), and songbirds are beginning to arrive.
The pace of migration is beginning to pick up. Not surprising as we sort of had spring-like weather over the Easter weekend, maybe the first southerly winds we have had this year.
Signs of spring are becoming more frequent, except for our weather.
Many a birders’ favorite shorebird — the American oystercatcher with its long bright red beak — returned to our shores this week.
Birding is exciting, as Lanny McDowell discussed in last week’s column.
An osprey — possibly everyone’s favorite species along with snowy owls — was heard calling over Major’s Cove.
