The Martha's Vineyard Community Services labor dispute took a step closer to resolution during National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) hearings in Boston this week as Community Services management and the Hospital Workers Union, on behalf of 19 employees from Island Counseling Center, agreed to extend voting privileges to all professional employees of Community Services.
In a marathon annual town meeting, Edgartown residents voted down the Martha's Vineyard Commission's designation of Chappaquiddick as a district of critical planning concern (DCPC).
Voting 195 to 134 not to establish the boundaries of the Chappaquiddick district, the town eliminated the district designation in one fell swoop.

Massive Warrant for Annual Meeting Confronts Edgartown Voters Tuesday

Edgartown voters will face 70 articles - dense with pages worth of zoning regulation proposals - at their annual town meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Whaling Church.
Hallgate is 60 sprawling acres of undeveloped land along the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road. This would-be subdivision has been tagged in more recent years as Edgartown's "car dump" - a final resting place for the battered hulks of automobiles.
