Today’s world melted away for an audience of about 50 music lovers Saturday when cellist Benjamin Swartz played at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury Saturday.

A proposed mixed-use building project at 3 Uncas avenue in Oak Bluffs has not found favor with the town selectmen, who voted 5-0 Tuesday to oppose it.

A plan to install modular classrooms at the Tisbury School has been scrapped, less than a week before voters will convene a special town meeting.

The days are shorter, the air is cooler and the kids are back in school — but this is still tourist season on Martha’s Vineyard, where fall is second only to summer as the Island’s busiest time.

When they gather for a special town meeting on Oct. 15, Tisbury voters will be asked to release $1.95 million from the general stabilization fund for immediate use at the Tisbury School.

A 2020 operating budget, fare hikes for the coming year and a preliminary new design for the Woods Hole terminal are expected to be discussed when boat line governors meet on the Vineyard Tuesday.
