A fatal accident in downtown Vineyard Haven last Tuesday left a young mother dead, and her family and friends devastated; it also has badly distressed many Islanders who witnessed the sudden tragedy.

Services were held yesterday in Melrose for Dina DeCecca, the mother of two young children who died while bicycling with her family and friends from the ferry on State Road, when she fell under an 18-wheel tractor-trailer.

Three athletes left the Island Friday morning in their purple and white warm-up suits, high socks and caps, each in their numbered T-shirts, carrying their black sports bags, having trained since September for this day of competition.

Each week, Menemsha summer couple Paula Lyons and Arnie Reisman join colleagues in a raucous radio game show of wordplay, taking questions such as, What’s an anagram for “Armed Possibles” and “A Slob Impressed?”

The answer is Possible Dreams, and this year the couple will bring their repartee to the podium as emcees of the 32nd annual celebrity auction for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services on August 2.
