Letter Shows Land Bank Position Misrepresented in Golf Deal Maneuvers

In a confidential letter sent to the Oak Bluffs selectmen last week, the executive director of the Martha's Vineyard Land Bank raised a series of tough questions about the latest deal that was forged behind closed doors between town officials and golf course developer Corey Kupersmith, the Gazette has learned.
Two farmers and three developers are among 13 candidates who will vie for nine elected seats on the Martha's Vineyard Commission in the state election this November.

The state Senate followed the lead of powerful New Bedford Sen. Mark Montigny and turned a deaf ear on Cape and Islands Sen. Robert O'Leary this week, voting overwhelmingly to approve a hostile bill to restructure the Steamship Authority.

State Senate action on a hostile bill to restructure the Steamship Authority was delayed in eleventh-hour maneuvering by Cape and Islands Sen. Robert O'Leary yesterday, and with just two days left in formal session at the state legislature, the bill will be taken up again by the Senate today.
