The opening had an air of freshness about it, much like the sea air you can smell from outside of PepArt, which is across the street from the Black Dog Tavern by the harbor in Vineyard Haven. For artists Greg Watson, Carrie Mae Smith and Elizabeth Cecil it is the first time owning and running an art gallery.

They opened a figurative art show this past Friday, primarily featuring the work of Mr. Watson. Other artists represented include Ms. Cecil, Ms. Smith, Suzanne Schiereson, E.M. Saniga and Kurt Knobelsdorf.

It’s been a long time coming for Morning Glory Farm to expand its farm stand. The farm has been overwhelmed in recent summers by the demand for the local produce they sell. This summer that problem may be averted. The new building has been open since Memorial Day weekend, and a formal grand opening was held on Saturday in the post and beam structure that looks like a miniature version of the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury.

Twelve Hundred dollars and a week of professional wall time was the award for three Island high school seniors who won the Martha’s Vineyard Arts Association scholarship given by the Old Sculpin Gallery. It is hard to know which is better: invaluable experience, or valuable resources.

This year the winners of the scholarship were Lonni Phillips, Naomi Scott and Maggie Howard.

On Sunday, there was an opening reception for this annual showing of the recipients of the scholarship; their exhibit runs until June 26.

As the lights went out and The Jackson 5’s ABC began playing, there was nothing left to do backstage, for adults and kids alike, but to get down with a final preshow dance, reveling in the excitement of closing night of the Fourth Grade Theatre Project performance of Calculated Risk.

This past weekend there were two plays performed by kids from the Tisbury school (Calculated Risk and Tornado Fourth Grade-O); this weekend there will be two more plays (Digging for Clues and A Map for Freedom), performed by students from the West Tisbury School.
