At the behest of the all-Island school committee, a group of top school administrators, yesterday recommended two of their own for consideration as interim superintendent of Vineyard schools.

 

 

 

Selectmen Will Call Special Election

At a meeting marked by confusion and procedural missteps, West Tisbury selectmen this week heeded the advice of their town counsel Ronald H. Rappaport and agreed to call a special town election in May to fill the vacant seat on the board of assessors.

But they turned a deaf ear on further advice from Mr. Rappaport and decided to appoint Cynthia Mitchell, a former selectman and town treasurer, to replace Raymond Houle on the board for the next two months.

Town and Tribe Pledge Era of Cooperation

With expressions of solidarity and a common eye on the future, leaders from the two governments in Aquinnah agreed this week to work together toward a shared vision for their town.

The pledges of support came during a rare joint meeting between some 20 officials from both the town and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), who gathered on Wednesday in the old town hall for an open forum marked by laughter and levity, and occasional moments of outspoken honesty.

In his 73 years James F. Alley has done a bit of just about everything.

He ran a riding school at Misty Meadows horse farm, served as the West Tisbury postmaster for more than 20 years, spent a few decades at Alley's General Store in various capacities, built a laundromat and car wash, sold used cars, and had a real estate business with his father, among other things.

Former Interim Schools Superintendent Named to Principal Post in Edgartown

Since moving to the Island a little over a year ago, G. Paul Dulac has had his taste of the Vineyard shuffle - serving first as interim superintendent of schools, and then as interim principal of the Edgartown School.

Now he can settle in for good.

Mr. Dulac was named yesterday as the permanent Edgartown School principal - replacing longtime principal Edward Jerome, who retired in November after 26 years in the front office.
