Last month we invited folks who support Danny at school and in the community to what we called a “vision party.” We invited them but we really didn’t expect them to show up.

The Rev. Mr. Robert Hensley, who has served as rector of Grace Episcopal Church since 2006, celebrates his 30th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood with a special service at 10 a.m. this coming Sunday.

Last Friday I visited my son’s teachers at the 
 regional high school. He is in a special education classroom where he focuses on vocational training, communication and how to cook and care for himself, in between fashioning impressive works of art, including a fine ceramic salsa and chip dish I opened last Christmas.

Grace Burton-Sundman, age 25, set off on a Rwandan adventure at the end of last year, a journey she was able to make with the support of her family and the Martha’s Vineyard community where she grew up. Grace, a 2006 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, is home for a visit and provided a glimpse into her life in Rwanda during a presentation, The New Rwanda, at the Vineyard Haven Library on August 6.

It was hard to tell which came first in the hearts of Islanders last Sunday — the chicken or the egg. The Coop de Ville Tour sponsored by Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard offered the opportunity for an egg-centric brunch followed by tours of chicken operations on several farms around the Island. All the chicken love had a purpose, too, according to the people at Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard.
