The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School celebrated its 19th graduating class in a ceremony today. Many of the graduates were barefoot, and all wore laurel crowns.

On Thursday Mackenzie Condon made history by becoming the first Vineyard woman to win an all-state championship. Then on Friday she signed with Harvard University.

The Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School graduation is Sunday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. on school grounds at 424 State Road in West Tisbury.

A week ago, Storm Swain became a U.S. citizen. On Monday, she joined the Pledge of Allegiance at the Memorial Day parade on the Vineyard.

Hiroko Nakamura Thompson and her sister Aiko were three months old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Their home was two kilometers from the center of the blast.

The aggressively invasive mile-a-minute vine, or Persicaria perfoliata, was discovered for the first time on the Vineyard by Greg Palermo and Margaret Curtin.
