Cars for a Good Cause

Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs in the commonwealth are seeking donations of used cars; money from the sale of the cars supports the programs. Donations are tax-deductible for those who itemize. To donate a car call 1-800-246-0493.

All are invited to celebrate the opening of the new Family Planning of Martha’s Vineyard Clinic, on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. Friends of Family Planning is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and invites everyone to visit and tour the new facility, a condo at 517 State Road Condominiums (5 Village Court Unit 1A) in Vineyard Haven.

This new building provides both clinic and office space and is handicapped accessible.

Island Art Talk

Melissa Breese of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association’s Old Sculpin Gallery and studio school will present a talk about selected works from the Permanent Collection of art made on the Vineyard from 1897 to the present, on Sunday, Nov. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Louisa Gould Gallery on Main street in Vineyard Haven.

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter is organizing a number of CPR, AED and first aid classes in November for residents of the Vineyard. All classes will be held at the YMCA at Cottager’s Corner, 57 Pequot avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Registration is available online via capecodandislandsredcross.org or by calling toll-free 1-508-775-1540.

An adult CPR/AED class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $50.

The Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven introduces a two-part November rock and roll cinema program this weekend with Smashing Pumpkins: If All Goes Wrong. The Pumpkins film screens tonight, Friday, Nov. 7 at 9:15 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 and again at 9:15 p.m.

The second film, The Who: Live at Kilburn 1977, will be showing Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 and 9:15 p.m.
