Ferry travelers to the Vineyard will experience a change of pace starting Monday, with the official opening of the Steamship Authority’s new temporary terminal in Woods Hole.

The signs still say “Opening November 2017,” but the Steamship Authority’s temporary terminal in Woods Hole will not open its doors until next month.

A ruling this week stated that the state Department of Environmental Protection was correct when it issued a license for a new Steamship Authority terminal and ferry slips in Woods Hole.

Steamship Authority governors Tuesday awarded a bid for a $2.6 million temporary modular terminal building in Woods Hole, another early step in a large reconstruction project at the Woods Hole facility.

Renovation of the Woods Hole terminal was the chief topic of conversation at a special meeting held on the Vineyard Tuesday. The meeting was convened in response to concern from Island residents about Steamship Authority spending and rate increases.

The Steamship Authority has agreed on a design concept for the new Woods Hole terminal.

The board approved the plan at their meeting last week in Nantucket, settling many aspects of a debate over terminal reconstruction that has spanned the last year.
