A Menemsha property owner who accused her neighbors of illegally cutting down more than 100 trees on her land in search of better water views won a $2.5 million settlement earlier this year. 

In two new superior court lawsuits alleging illegal tree cutting — one in Chilmark another on Chappaquiddick — land owners are accusing their neighbors of destroying old-growth trees for the sake of creating water views.

It’s an uncharacteristically noisy holiday season on Circuit avenue, but the downtown buzz in Oak Bluffs isn’t from tourists and shoppers. Instead it comes from chain saws and leaf blowers.
