The decision to build a new Tisbury elementary school on the site of the old school has been made, but rumbles of discontent persist about both the decision and the process that led to it.
Tisbury School students in fifth grade through eight grade were honored at the school’s awards presentation.
Following a vote by the school building committee Monday night, Tisbury will pursue plans for an all-new three-story school on the current site. The committee voted 11-5 to opt for a new construction over a renovation addition.
A new or renovated Tisbury school building will be located on the existing site on Spring street following a narrow vote by the school building committee Wednesday evening.
With a final vote expected soon on where to site a new Tisbury School, town residents will have a final chance to weigh in at a public forum tomorrow. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
The Tisbury School should stay at its current site. That was the consensus of the selectmen at their meeting Tuesday. Working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority grant program, the town has been exploring an array of options for a new school.
