There’s a rising star among the new faculty members at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
Despite hours of debate and five drafts of an operating budget, the up-Island regional school committee has yet to agree on a financial plan for 2015. Now under discussion is a draft that asks for an increase of 8.09 per cent, $752,000 more than last year.
Students from all elementary schools on the Island come together for the string concert this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School.
A week ago 15 high school students from Castellon de la Plana, Spain, arrived on the Island, hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School. This was the first visit to the United States for many of the students.
A letter went home to high school parents this week noting that two students received medical treatment after eating brownies laced with marijuana. At least one unnamed student is expected to face disciplinary action following the incident. No criminal charges will be filed, Oak Bluffs police said.
The latest version of the budget is just over $10 million, an 8.2 per cent increase over last year. The finance committee and town accountant in West Tisbury say it's too much for taxpayers to bear in the long term.
