Community Roots Guide New West Tisbury Police Chief

Bradley Cortez's path to the police force began after he graduated from Martha's Vineyard Regional High School when he joined the army. He did two tours in Afghanistan before deciding he wanted to shift to police work, inspired by officers he encountered as a child.

 

 

 

Island police responded to numerous motor vehicle accidents, broke up several loud parties and placed a few intoxicated holiday revelers into protective custody over the weekend.

Edgartown

On Friday at 10:30 p.m. Edgartown police responded to a single-car accident on Meshacket Road near Morning Glory Farm. When officers arrived they discovered that a blue Chevrolet S10 Truck had gone off the road and struck the guide wire of a telephone pole.

The newly created Martha’s Vineyard Tactical Response Team was dispatched for the first time on Saturday to assist West Tisbury police with a warrant arrest of a man with a history of violent crime.

On Friday police were notified by the Barnstable superior court probation department of a probation warrant for William F. Campbell, who lives on Great Pond Road. Police said that Mr. Campbell had violated probation by not keeping his personal tracking unit on; his whereabouts were unknown.

Island police this week announced the new Martha’s Vineyard Tactical Response Team, an elite, highly trained group of officers that will assist the police departments during critical incidents such as hostage situations, searches for armed subjects and civic disorder.
