Traditions from all over the world and all through history help us start the New Year on the right foot.

It may be cliche, but yes another year has passed in the blink of an eye. Well, no matter, it’s time to celebrate.

To keep the New Year party going all weekend, there will be a potluck jam at the Chilmark Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 3, beginning at 5 p.m.

New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world include eating grapes, wearing polka dots, watching fireworks, eating black-eyed peas, sporting your best pair of lucky underwear and then, of course, the kiss.

Kids can count down the New Year a little early at the Edgartown library on Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Harbor View hosts its annual big bash on Tuesday night, with the Sultans of Swing and the Mike Benjamin Band. Party-only tickets are sold out but packages with lodging are still available. Call 508-627-3761.
