Lagoon Music
Jazz pianist John Alaimo will give a sunset serenade on Sunday, August 31, when Pam and Jim Butterick open their home at 359 Barnes Road for a benefit evening of music on the Lagoon. From 6:30 to 10 p.m., there will be great music and light refreshment and, with luck, a lovely sunset over the lagoon.

It’s time for old-time fiddle music tonight, when The Flying Elbows Fiddle Band performs at 8 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre.
Known to deliver light-hearted, high-energy performances, the Flying Elbows will present both original and traditional songs with humor and three-part harmony in addition to their familiar fiddle material.
If you weren’t one of the lucky 200 who showed up at the Tabernacle to see the first and likely-to-be annual Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Festival, then you missed out. It was the last event of the summer to be held at the Camp Ground but certainly not the least.
Ethan Stiefel, world-renowned ballet dancer and star of the film Center Stage, and his professional ensemble Stiefel & Stars, perform on Island in their annual one-night-only benefit for Vineyard Arts Project at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center.
The show will be held on Wednesday, August 27, at 6 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center at the high school. Tickets are available at $35, $65, $95 and $125 and may be purchased online at vineyardartsproject.org or by calling 508-413-2104.

Got Chops?
The film Chops, about high school jazz bands competing at the Essentially Ellington Festival, will screen as the final Tabernacle summer film, tonight, Tuesday, August 19, at 8 p.m. in the Camp Ground in Oak Bluffs.
Filmmaker Brice Broder turns his lens on one Florida band at the festival hosted by Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center. Running 88 minutes, Chops is appropriate for all ages. Admissions is $8 and $5 for film society members.
