Health agents reported 19 new coronavirus cases on the Island Thursday — likely the largest single-day total since the pandemic began. One patient is currently hospitalized.

Island health officials reported eight new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, a slight decrease as the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital said it would receive its first batch of virus vaccine next week.

Two traveling assistant nurses stationed at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s Windemere long term care facility have tested positive for Covid-19, hospital officials said.

The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital said it could see the first batch of coronavirus vaccines arrive on-Island by the middle of December.

The coronavirus case surge on the Island continued without letup Monday. On Tuesday the numbers settled down somewhat.

A week that saw coronavirus numbers surge on the Island concluded with eight new cases Friday, as health officials reported a record 55 active cases currently on the Vineyard.
