Teachers, farmers and students all gathered at the Grange Hall on Friday to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of Island Grown Schools.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School will change its cafeteria program beginning next year to be managed in house.

Cutting ties with the federal government has liberated the Vineyard’s free summer lunch program, which begins its second season July 9. The program is sponsored by Island Grown Initiative.

For five weeks this summer, hundreds of Martha’s Vineyard children had a place to eat lunch for free.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School will sponsor a summer food program to help provide meals to children 18 and younger during a month-long pilot program. The meals will be prepared at the high school and delivered to three Island sites.

The Vineyard Gazette will donate $11,000 to the Island Grown Initiative on behalf of more than 700 readers who responded to a subscription campaign.
