Volunteers are sought for participation in focus groups about a major renovation of the Howes House in West Tisbury.
The West Tisbury select board opened the floor this week to residents with varying ideas for the use of Howes House, now home to the Up-Island Council on Aging, which is slated for an $8 million renovation.
Howes House in West Tisbury, home base for the Up-Island Council on Aging, would be a better place for old folks if it also served younger people, West Tisbury resident Susan Silk told the town select board on August 17.
The rain outside trickled down the windows of Howes House in West Tisbury last Tuesday morning as Jeanne Hewett began reading a piece written by fellow Howes House writer Charles Blank, who could not attend the event. The story included images of playtime for a little boy, with games of war and pirates using twigs and branches as weapons.
“What is it about males that they always played war?” asked Brigitta Lent at the end of the reading. “Even a gentle soul like Charles?”
