Runners braved the hilly roads through the moors of Aquinnah to compete in the 12th annual Gay Head Light 10K Sunday. Ryan Sawyer came in first for men, and Maria Wong first for women.

After starting at the top of the Aquinnah circle, the route took runners west along State Road, then back along Moshup Trail, then past the Gay Head Light for a quick trip around the circle to the finish line.

 

 

 

Run, Don't Walk to Save Gay Head Light

On Sunday morning the town of Aquinnah hosts a 10K run, the first of its kind in the area. The race is part of the Save the Gay Head Lighthouse campaign. Aquinnah police are asking residents of Moshup Trail and State Road to use extra caution when exiting their driveways. Read more ....

About 100 runners from as far as Santa Monica, Calif. lined up to race in the 10th running of the Gay Head 10K Sunday, but it was a husband and wife duo from Queens who took home gold in the overall and female categories.

Kevin Montalvo crossed the line first overall, completing the hilly 6.2-mile course in 36:20. Not far behind was his wife Maria Wong, the first female finisher, completing the race in 42:36.
