Chilmark voters approved allocating about $400,000 to various projects at a speedy special town meeting Monday evening. 

The town has called a one-article town meeting for Monday, July 15 to transfer more than $400,000 from the town’s general stabilization fund to various projects. 

An old firehouse came down Monday in Chilmark to make way for a new one, on the heels of Saturday’s special town meeting, when voters gave a green light to add $1.3 million to the project for a new fire station complex.

Chilmark voters will meet Saturday to take up the question of whether to approve another $1.2 million to advance the construction of a new firehouse and Tri-Town Ambulance building.

Meeting outdoors Saturday afternoon, 87 Chilmark voters made quick work of their special town meeting warrant, spending nearly $1.5 million on town, school and Island-wide projects.
